The Pellar, a Cornish term for a white witch, sorcerer or cunning person, holds a powerful place in Cornwall’s history and folklore. From local healers to figures such as Tamsin Blight, Joan Wytte and Mother Ivey, they helped shape the sense of magic many feel when crossing the Tamar.

Beyond the pointy hatted tropes of Hollywood, these were people believed to hold great power, balancing light and dark to help those in need.

Their presence reaches across Cornish folklore, touching tales of merfolk, mining, the industrial age and, of course, Merlin himself.

Step into the world of The Pellar to find out more.
