Dark Cornwall Studio creates bold visuals, immersive live installations, and unforgettable creatures, bringing cinematic storytelling to life from the ancient land of Kernow.
We collaborate with artists, musicians, engineers and makers across Cornwall to bring ancient stories into contemporary spaces. From public installations and heritage sites to schools, films and community projects, each commission is shaped by place, story and purpose. We work offline, favouring physical craft over digital shortcuts, and value process as much as outcome.

Past Projects

In partnership with the National Trust at Trelissick, Dark Cornwall Studio delivered an immersive folkloric experience that combined life size creature builds with live performance. Stilt walkers, harpists, dancers and storytellers brought Cornish folklore into the landscape, while our team managed the full execution of the event onsite, working closely with the National Trust to meet heritage preservation and health and safety requirements.
In the lead up, we shared the full making process with our audience, from initial builds to final installation. We dressed multiple areas across the estate, including creating a mock forest using natural materials from the site, and led tours throughout the exhibition, ensuring visitors of all ages felt informed, welcomed and genuinely delighted by the experience.

The project was a major success, attracting thousands of visitors and generating strong engagement across the estate and online. The experience received overwhelmingly positive feedback from families, National Trust staff and the wider community, demonstrating a clear appetite for immersive, folklore-led programming that respects heritage while offering something memorable and joyful for all ages.

The event featured live music, traditional storytelling and guided encounters with significant Cornish artefacts, alongside an international art exhibition showcasing work from over sixty artists from around the world. The experience was preceded by a pre event dinner at the Alverton Hotel, bringing artists, speakers and collaborators together before welcoming the public into the museum.
