Tales of the Morvoren, the Kernewek word for mermaid, are woven into Cornwall’s maritime history and folklore. From the Mermaid of Zennor to darker drolls of merfolk and the mysteries of the deep, these stories have enthralled people for generations.
Alongside them are accounts of giant sea serpents, ghostly beings that change the weather, and sea deities such as the Bucca, who still receives offerings from fishermen today.
There are also stories you can see and touch, from shipwrecks beneath the sea to smuggling tunnels and pirates who once haunted these shores.
Follow the Morvoren to discover this rich side of Cornwall’s identity.
