Hexibition II

Dark Cornwall Studio. 7th March - 4th April

Hexibition II returns to the Dark Cornwall Studio for a month-long exhibition dedicated to the slow look.

This second iteration brings together eleven artists, each presenting two original works. Every piece has been selected with intention, asking the viewer to pause, reflect, and remain with the work rather than consume it at a glance.

This exhibition is an exercise in resisting speed. The slow look is not about visual puzzles or hidden details for their own sake. It is about work where every mark has weight, where emotion unfolds gradually, and where meaning deepens the longer you stay with it. These are pieces that reward five minutes of attention, and often more.

At Dark Cornwall, we believe art should live beyond a digital image and a hashtag. Art deserves conversation, disagreement, silence, and time. Hexibition II is an invitation to step away from the scroll and into a more human way of seeing.

Theme

The previous Hexibition explored darker subject matter intended for an adult audience, and Hexibition II continues this approach. Artists are encouraged to explore fear, unease, and the shadowed corners of emotion. This is not about shock for its own sake, but about honesty, vulnerability, and confronting what we often avoid.

For exhibiting artists

As part of Hexibition II, Dark Cornwall has reserved three exhibition slots specifically for artists from our community. These places are intended to support and showcase emerging or independent artists whose work aligns with the ethos of the slow look and the darker thematic focus of the exhibition, offering an opportunity to present original work within the Dark Cornwall Studio alongside the existing invited exhibitors.

Each participating artist may sell their work during the exhibition. All payment and logistics are handled directly between artist and buyer. Dark Cornwall does not take commission. Any sale made is entirely yours. Being invited to exhibit your work is, in our eyes, an honour rather than a transaction.

Key requirements

  • No digital art or prints. Original works and traditional methods only. Three-dimensional works are welcome.

  • No hate speech or offensive content.

  • Minimum size A2 or larger.

  • All works must be delivered, framed, to the Dark Cornwall Studio by 5 pm on 4th March.

  • The artist must collect any unsold works by 5 pm on 7th April.

  • Artists must agree to the following disclaimer: Dark Cornwall is not liable for damage to artwork while on site, although every reasonable effort will be made to keep all works safe.

How to submit

Artists wishing to submit work for Hexibition II should visit our Contact Us page and submit their application there. Please attach a clear photograph of one or two pieces you would like to be considered for the exhibition, along with a brief artist statement outlining who you are as an artist and the meaning or intention behind the work. Please ensure that you include your contact details so we can reach you easily. The deadline for submitting expressions of interest and work is 24th February, with the final selection of the three community artists confirmed on 27th February.

Age guidance

Some works may be unsettling or disturbing. For this reason, we ask that all visitors be aged fifteen or over. Hexibition II is an invitation to slow down, look longer, and engage more deeply with art that does not ask to be consumed quickly.
